비공식 번역본에 대한 정보
The reason the FSF does not approve these translations as officially
valid is that checking them would be difficult and expensive (needing
the help of bilingual lawyers in other countries). Even worse, if an
error did slip through, the results could be disastrous for the whole
free software community. As long as the translations are unofficial,
they can't do any harm, and we hope they help more people understand
the GPL.
자유소프트웨어재단이 번역본을 공식적으로 유효하다라고 인정하지 않는 이유는 정말 유효한지 검증하는 일이 어렵고, 상당한 비용을 필요로 하는 일이기 때문입니다(두가지 언어가 모두 가능한 변호사의 도움을 필요로 합니다). 더 심각한 것은 만약 번역 과정에서 오류가 슬며시 끼어들었다면, 전체 자유 소프트웨어 커뮤니티에 재앙이 되는 결과가 초래될 수도 있을 것입니다. 번역본을 비공식적으로 둔다면, 이런 문제는 피하면서 좀 더 많은 사람들이 GPL을 이해하는데 도움이 될 수 있을 겁니다.
We give permission to publish translations of the GNU GPL, LGPL,
AGPL, and FDL into other languages, provided that you (1) label your
translations as unofficial (see below for how to do this), to inform
people that they do not count legally as substitutes for the authentic
version, and (2) you agree to install changes at our request, if we
learn from other friends of GNU that changes are necessary to make the
translation clearer.

“GPL” with the name and abbreviation of the license you're
translating, if it's not the GPL.

아무래도 당연한 정책이겠죠. 법률적 혼란을 방지하기 위해서는 저런 방법이 필요할 것 같다는 생각이 드네요. 그래도 어찌됐든 요즘 처럼 오픈 소스가 전체 소프트웨어 시장에서 한 축을 담당하고 있는 때에 개발자들이 오프소스 라이선스에 대해 이해할 필요가 있다고 생각합니다.
